FIRST IMPRESSION:
My eight year-old son is a Pokemon fan. He bought this playset with his own money and was very disappointed. It's basically an elaborate pop-up book with four scenes. A clip comes with it to hold the front cover to the back cover so the book can stand up; but that clip is easily lost, which my son promptly did. Still, it can be held together with a twisted paperclip, so it is not the end of the earth.
Each playset comes with one Pokemon. We must supply the rest.
SCENES:
There are four scenes: jungle region, cave region, stadium and Pokemon center. Each scene has tabs for the child to pull like most pop-up books.
The jungle region features a running wave and a bird that flies.
The cave region is the most interesting with two hidden jewel tabs and a rock path that can be retracted like a trap door.
The arena is a place for the Pokemon to do battle. It contains no special pop-up tabs.
The Pokemon center is where they go for healing. It has two flaps for hospital doors but no other pop-up items.
WHY HE DIDN`T LIKE IT:
The biggest problem with this book is common with most books of this sort. The floor of the scenes does not stay flat so the children cannot set the Pokemon on the ground of any scene without the figurine falling over.
Also, there aren't many pop-up tabs to pull. Other than the rocky path trap door, they aren't very exciting pop-ups anyway.
My son opened this up, explored all it had to offer and decided it was boring. He has not touched it since. After taking a close look at it myself, I don't really blame him.
