McDonald's McFlurry Maker Review

We just bought the McFlurry machine for my 8 year old daughter for her birthday. It is fairly easy for an adult to put together, but a little confusing for a kid. That's not a problem however, as adults are used to putting toys together for a child.
First of all, you have to be careful and not fill up the canister too much with the ice and salt, or you will get salt in your ice cream, which believe me, doesn't taste very good.
Also, be prepared to put a towel under the machine or you will have water every where. By the way, you will need 3/4 cup of table salt each time you use the machine, so make sure you buy salt before hand. After you turn the handle for like 6-8 minutes, then your ice cream is done. Keep in mind the metal container that the ice cream is made in is about half the size or less than the cup you are supposed to eat it out of. So you wind up with your cup about 1/4 full. A few bites maybe. To fill the cup up and peaked over the brim like they show on the front of the box you would need about 5 packets of McFlurry mix and mix it up 5 times. Which of course, it only comes with 2 packets of the mix, and besides, by the time you got done making ice cream 5 times for 6-8 minutes each time, what you had already made would be melted. Most kids would get tired doing this 5 times in a row anyway. They would have to set what they had already made into the freezer and total time would be about an hour to fill that darn cup all the way up.
So in other words, you follow all the directions, you will get a 1/4 ice cream in the cup that is provided. Maybe 3 or 4 bites at best. We also bought the refills at $5.00 each. They come with 2 packets and the 2 packets sprinkles. So we wasted $35.00 on the machine and refills.
Oh, and clean up is not easy and simple. You have to take the many pieces back apart and wash every thing so that you don't wind up with sour milk in the cracks. A kid is not going to be able to get it clean enough to be sanitary.
So all in all, to get a few bites of ice cream, your going to spend alot of money, have a mess to clean up and a frustrated child who wants the cup filled all the way up like the picture on the front of the box.
Believe me, don't waste your money on this, you will have a very disappointed kid on your hands.
